Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched the ‘Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme’ on Friday, which will provide 100 days of employment to urban families each year.

What’ll be the procedure?

The State’s Job Guarantee program launched on Friday, providing financial assistance to poor and needy urban families through 100 days of on-call work per year. Statewide, he has more than 3.5,000 enrolled in the program, of which 2.25,000 have been issued work cards. 

Where did it start?

CM Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the scheme which is named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The inauguration was started firstly by renovation work at the 18th century Khania Ki Baori stepwell near Ambedkar Bhavan. 
There Mr. Gehlot introduced the scheme as historic, as MGNREG because it would also provide employment to people with job needs.

When was the scheme announced?

The CM announced the launch of this scheme earlier in this year in his budget speech in the State Assembly while making a provision of ₹800 crore. Mentioned as biggest scheme of the country in context of giving jobs to the people residing in cities. 
This program is supposed to provide job to the people of age group between 18 and 60 years of the job card holder families. The State government appointed various committees at different levels for effective implementation of the scheme.
While addressing the people at the gathering CM Gehlot told that the program was prepared after researching about such similar schemes in other States. 
He added that this scheme’s main aim is to give financial support to those families which were affected by the pandemic, after this scheme their livelihood will get on the track after they get job.
Mr. Gehlot  said that the government organized a huge rally in Delhi against the Central over inflation due to the pandemic recently. He said “we will fight it out with the Center in public interest, but this scheme is also very useful to provide various works for livelihood and push life towards a good future”.
