Mamta Banerjee’s journey has been very interesting till she became the youngest MP in the 1984 general elections and then came to power in West Bengal, which is considered a bastion of Left parties. Mamta was born on 5 January 1955 in a lower-middle-class family in Kolkata. His father was a freedom fighter. Mamta was only 17 years old when she died due to illness. After which the responsibility of the family fell on his shoulders. Mamta raised her siblings by selling milk and completed her studies herself. Mamta Banerjee did her Bachelors in Law and Masters in Arts from Calcutta University.
Political Journey:
Founded the student council union at Jogmaya Devi College at the age of 15, which was the student wing of the Congress (I) and defeated the student wing of the Left parties in the elections. Mamta Banerjee became active in politics through the Congress party in the college in the 70s, she was made the General Secretary of Mahila Congress. In 1984, Mamta contested in the general election and defeated Somnath Chatterjee from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha seat. In 1996, 1999, 2004 and 2009, Mamata Banerjee won the Lok Sabha elections from the Kolkata seat.

ममता का जन्म 5 जनवरी 1955 को कोलकाता के एक निम्न मध्यवर्गीय परिवार में हुआ| उनके पिता एक स्वतंत्रता सेनानी थे| बीमारी के चलते जब उनकी मौत हुई तब ममता की उम्र केवल 17 साल थी| जिसके बाद परिवार की जिम्मेदारी उनके ही कंधों पर आ गयी| ममता ने दूध बेचकर अपने भाई-बहन का पालन पोषण किया और खुद भी अपनी पढ़ाई पूरी की| ममता बनर्जी ने कलकत्ता यूनिवर्सिटी से लॉ में स्नातक और आर्ट्स में मास्टर किया|
राजनीतिक सफर:
15 साल की उम्र में जोगमाया देवी कॉलेज में छात्र परिषद यूनियन की स्थापना की जो कांग्रेस (आई) की स्टूडेंट विंग थी और वाम दलों के स्टूडेंट विंग को चुनाव में हराया| ममता बनर्जी 70 के दशक में कॉलेज में कांग्रेस पार्टी के जरिए राजनीति में सक्रिय हुई उन्हें महिला कांग्रेस का महासचिव बना दिया गया| 1984 में ममता आम चुनाव में उतरी और जादवपुर लोकसभा सीट से उन्होंने सोमनाथ चटर्जी को हराया| 1996, 1999, 2004 और 2009 में ममता बनर्जी कोलकाता सीट से लोकसभा चुनाव जीती|
