World Biofuel Day is celebrated every year on 10 August. This day makes people aware of the importance of non-fossil fuels. The Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas is organizing World Bio-Fuel Day for the last three years.

In the year 1893, on 9 August, the inventor of the diesel engine, Sir Rudolf Diesel, successfully powered a mechanical engine with peanut oil for the first time. His analysis experiment predicted that vegetable oil would be used to replace fossil fuels in different mechanical engines in the next century. World Biofuel Day is celebrated every year on 10 August to remember this achievement.

This day is celebrated to reduce dependence on biofuels, adopt different sources of vitality, and bring big day towards efficient administration of fuel. This day is celebrated all over the world to create awareness among the people about the importance of non-fossil fuels as different from fossil fuels.

Biofuels have the advantages of an era of reduced import dependence on crude oil, cleaner setting, further revenue to farmers, and employment in rural areas. In India, the biofuel program is celebrated to promote Make in India, Swachh Bharat, and farmers' revenue.
