Recently, Indian-origin Sirisha Bandla became the second woman of Indian origin to fly in space on July 11, 2021. She flew to the edge of space aboard billionaire Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic flight ‘VSS Unity’ (she was one of the six crew members).
Sirisha Bandla is the second woman of Indian origin in space after Kalpana Chawla, who died in 2003 when the Columbia Space Shuttle disintegrated during its re-entry to Earth.

कल्पना चावला, जिनकी मृत्यु 2003 में कोलंबिया अंतरिक्ष शटल के पृथ्वी पर पुन: प्रवेश के दौरान विघटित होने पर हो गई थी, के बाद सिरिशा बांदला अंतरिक्ष में जाने वाली भारतीय मूल की दूसरी महिला हैं|
उद्योगपति आनंद महिंद्रा ने भी यह कहते हुए एक ट्वीट किया कि, “भारतीय महिलाएं न केवल शीशे की छत तोड़ रही हैं (अपना सर्वोत्तम प्रदर्शन कर रही हैं) – वे सचमुच इस ग्रह (पृथ्वी) की सभी सीमाओं को लांघ रही हैं और अंतरिक्ष में उड़ान भर रही हैं.”
सिरीशा बांदला का जन्म आंध्र प्रदेश के गुंटूर जिले के एक शहर, तेनाली में हुआ| उनका पालन-पोषण अमेरिका के ह्यूस्टन में हुआ था|
