The International Olympic Committee (nternational Olympic Committee-IOC) has announced that its new headquarters in Lausanne has been awarded the European 2020 US Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership Award. The Olympic House, which also has the most inaccessible LEED Platinum Proof, is one of the strongest buildings in the world.
Olympic House is the first international headquarters to achieve the highest ever mark for any LEED v4-certified new construction project, as well as the second building to achieve a maximum (platinum) level in the Swiss Sustainable Construction Standard (SNBS).

Why has the IOC office been given this award?

  • The Olympic House was inaugurated on 23 June last year, symbolizing the IOC’s strong commitment to sustainability. It includes strict criteria in energy and water efficiency to optimize the health and wellbeing of its users.
  • The Olympic House is producing impressive results in terms of its operations, cutting energy consumption and non-reusable office waste by half in comparison to the former IOC building.
  • The building is powered by renewable energy, some of which is produced on site. 95 percent of the vest was recycled for Olympic building construction, and more than 95 percent of the vest of the former IOC building was recycled or reused.
  • Carbon emissions from the construction and operation of the building were supplied through the IOC-Dow Carbon Partnership.

About the European US Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership Award:

It is awarded to five organizations that “idealize the use of LEED to improve communities, support human health and well-being, and contribute to a better future for all”.
