Hemananda Biswal passed away: Recently, former Chief Minister of Odisha and prominent tribal leader of Congress Hemananda Biswal passed away at the age of 82 on 25 February 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condoled the death of a big leader of Odisha.

Hemanand Biswal was ill for the past several days. PM Modi wrote in a tweet that I am saddened by the demise of former Odisha Chief Minister Hemanand Biswal ji. He was active in public life for many years and has done a lot of work among the people. My condolences to his family and supporters in this time of sorrow.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi condoled the death of former Odisha Chief Minister Hemanand Biswal and described him as a strong leader of the party. Rahul Gandhi tweeted and said my heartfelt condolences to the family and close friends of Hemanand Biswal ji. He said that he was a strong leader of the Congress party and will be remembered as a great tribal leader.

Hemanand Biswal has been considered a big leader of Dalits and Adivasis in Odisha because he has worked exclusively for these communities throughout his political career. Hemanand Biswal became the first tribal chief minister of Odisha. He contested the first election in the year 1974 on a Congress ticket from Lykera seat of Sundargarh district. He became MLA from this seat 6 times.

Born on 01 December 1939, Biswal was the Chief Minister of Odisha twice. Let us tell you that his first term as Chief Minister was from 07 December 1989 to 05 March 1990 and the second from 06 December 1999 to 05 March 2000. He was elected Lok Sabha MP from Sundargarh seat in the year 2009. He was called the leader of the tribal society in Odisha.
