Life introduction:

Lala Lajpat Rai was a prominent leader of the Garam Dal of the Indian National Congress. Along with Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal, this trinity was known as Lal-Bal-Pal. These three leaders were the first to demand complete independence in India.

 

Birth:

Lala Lajpat Rai was born on January 28, 1865, in Ferozepur, Punjab. His father Munshi Radha Krishna Azad was a great scholar of Persian and Urdu and his mother Gulab Devi was a religious woman. Lala Lajpat Rai was instrumental in the establishment of the Punjab National Bank.

 

Education:-

Lala Lajpat Rai’s father was a teacher in Government Higher Secondary School, Rewari. From there he did his primary education. In 1886, the family of Lala Lajpat Rai came to Hisar. where he started advocating. He participated as a representative during the annual sessions of the National Congress of 1888 and 1889. He moved to Lahore in 1892 to practice in the High Court.

Political Functions:

Lala Lajpat Rai along with Swami Dayanand Saraswati popularized Arya Samaj in Punjab. Along with Lala Hansraj and Kalyan Chandra Dixit, Dayanand spread the Anglo-Vedic schools, which are today known as DAV Schools and Colleges. Lalaji also served the people by organizing famine camps at many places.

 

Death:

On 30 October 1928, Lala Lajpat Rai took part in a demonstration against the Simon Commission in Lahore, during which he was badly injured in the lathi charge and finally died on 17 November 1928.

At that time he said: “Every stick on my body will act as a nail in the British government’s coffin.”

 

The whole country was agitated by the death of Lala and Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and other revolutionaries decided to avenge the deadly lathi-charge on Lalaji. Due to this, on 17 December 1928, British police officer Saunders was shot. Rajguru, Sukhdev, and Bhagat Singh were sentenced to death for the murder of Saunders in lieu of Lalaji’s death.
