World Vegetarian Day 2021: World vegetarian day is celebrated annually on October 1. This day is celebrated to create awareness about the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle and encourage others to become vegetarian. A major chunk of people cites culture and religious issues for sticking to a vegetarian diet.


World Vegetarian Day was founded in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS) and was endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. . The day was endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. October 1 also kick starts the 'Month of Vegetarian Food', an event initiated by the International Vegetarian Union.


The consumption of a vegetarian diet stops the increase of excess fat in the body, reduces the risk of heart ailments and its fibres and antioxidants help in fighting cancer. The majority of the people are of the view that a vegetarian diet is healthier and more eco-friendly as compared to a non-vegetarian diet.
