Captain Vikram Batra Birth Anniversary 2021: The 47th birth anniversary of martyr Captain Vikram Batra is being celebrated today. On 9 September 1974 at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, G.L. Vikram was born to Batra and Kamalkanta Batra. Being an army cantonment area, Vikram wanted to join the army since childhood.

After completing his schooling, Captain Vikram Batra went to Chandigarh for further studies. Where he joined the NCC Air Wing. During college, he was selected for the merchant navy, but he did his MA in English. After this Vikram joined the army. Along with being selected in the Services Selection Board in the year 1996 and joining the Indian Military Academy, he became a part of the Manekshaw Battalion.
Captain Vikram Batra was appointed as a lieutenant in 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles at Sopore in Jammu in December 1997, after which he reached the rank of Captain in the Kargil war in June 1999. After this, Captain Batra’s contingent was given the responsibility of freeing the important 5140 peaks on the Srinagar-Leh road. The Captain led his detachment and on the morning of 20 June 1999, captured the remaining three and a half peaks. After this, he said on his victory on the radio “Yeh Dil Maange More”, which went on the tongue of every countryman.
Vikram Batra’s detachment then got the responsibility of capturing the peak of 4875. In which he was successful, but on 7 July 1999, before the capture of India on the peak, he sacrificed his life fighting with Pakistan soldiers with his troop. For the bravery of Captain Batra, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra.
शहीद कैप्टन विक्रम बत्रा की आज 47वीं जयंती मनाई जा रही है| 9 सितंबर 1974 को हिमाचल प्रदेश पालमपुर में जी.एल. बत्रा और कमलकांता बत्रा के घर विक्रम का जन्म हुआ था| सेना छावनी का इलाका होने की वजह से विक्रम बचपन से ही सेना मे शामिल होना चाहते थे|
भारतीय सेना में परमवीर चक्र हासिल करना बहुत गौरव की बात होती है| जिन्हें युद्ध में अदम्य साहस का यह सर्वोच्च सम्मान हासिल हो पाता है| कैप्टन विक्रम बत्रा ऐसे वीर थे जिन्हें केवल 24 साल की उम्र में ही कारगिल युद्ध में मरणोपरांत यह गौरव हासिल हुआ था|
कैप्टन विक्रम बत्रा ने स्कूली पढ़ाई पूरी करने के बाद आगे की पढ़ाई के लिए चंडीगढ़ चले गए| जहा वे एनसीसी एयर विंग में शामिल हो गए| कॉलेज के दौरान ही उन्हें मर्चेंट नेवी के लिए चुना गया था, लेकिन उन्होंने अंग्रेजी में एमए की| इसके बाद विक्रम सेना में शामिल हो गए| साल 1996 में इसके साथ ही सर्विसेस सिलेक्शन बोर्ड में भी चयनित होककर और इंडियन मिलिट्री एकेडमी से जुड़ने के साथ वे मानेकशॉ बटालियन का हिस्सा बने|
कैप्टन विक्रम बत्रा दिसंबर 1997 जम्मू में सोपोर में 13 जम्मूकश्मीर राइफ्लस में लेफ्टिनेट पद पर नियुक्ति मिली जिसके बाद जून 1999 में कारगिल युद्ध में ही वे कैप्टन के पद पर पहुंच गए| इसके बाद कैप्टन बत्रा की टुकड़ी को श्रीनगर-लेह मार्ग के ऊपर महत्वपूर्ण 5140 चोटी को मुक्त करवाने की जिम्मदारी दी गई थी| कैप्टन ने अपने टुकड़ी का नेतृत्व किया और 20 जून 1999 के सुबह साढ़े तीन बचे चोटी को अपने कब्जे में ले लिया| इसके बाद उन्हें रेडियो पर अपनी जीत पर कहा “ये दिल मांगे मोर”, जो हर देशवासी की जुबां पर चढ़ गया|
विक्रम बत्रा की टुकड़ी को इसके बाद 4875 की चोटी पर कब्जा करने की जिम्मेदारी मिली| जिसमे वे सफल हुए लेकिन 7 जुलाई 1999 को चोटी पर भारत का कब्जा होने से पहले अपनी टुकड़ी के साथ पाकिस्तान सैनिकों से लड़ते हुए अपने प्राणों की आहूति दे दी| कैप्टन बत्रा की बहादुरी के लिए उन्हें मरणोपरांत परमवीर चक्र का सम्मान दिया गया|
