Sadbhavana Divas 2021: After the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984, Rajiv Gandhi was made the PM of the country. At that time Rajiv was only 40 years old. Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister of the country.
Every year on August 20, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is celebrated as ‘Sadbhavna Divas. This day holds special significance to promote peace, national unity and communal harmony among the people of all religions of the country.
Rajiv Gandhi is especially remembered for the development and welfare policies of the country. Born on 20 August 1944, Rajiv Gandhi is celebrating his 77th birth anniversary this year.
After the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984, Rajiv Gandhi was made the Prime Minister of the country. At that time Rajiv was only 40 years old. Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister of the country till 1989. He was also assassinated in the year 1989. The credit of bringing revolutionary changes in the information technology and telecommunications sector in the country goes to Rajiv Gandhi.
Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award: Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award was instituted in the year 1992 to honour people who have done remarkable work in the field of social harmony and goodwill. The winner of this award is awarded a cash amount of Rs 10 lakh and a citation.
Father of Communication Revolution: To spread the network of communication and information technology in the country, he formed the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) in August 1984. Due to C-DOT, the network of communication network started in the villages, in the towns of the country. During this time PCO (Public Call Office) was started. PCO had a huge role in bringing the communication revolution.
In order to increase the participation of youth in democracy, Rajiv Gandhi’s government in 1989 reduced the voting age from 21 years to 18 years. For this, the 61st amendment was made in the constitution. To take democracy to the grassroots level, Rajiv had laid the foundation stone of the Panchayati Raj system.
Rajiv Gandhi once said, ‘India is an old nation but a young country’. I am also young and I also have dreams. I dream of an India which is strong, independent and self-reliant. A country that is among the leading countries of the world in the service of humanity.

(देश के विकास एवं जनकल्याणकारी नीतियों के लिए राजीव गांधी को विशेष तौर पर याद किया जाता है| 20 अगस्त 1944 को जन्मे राजीव गांधी इस साल की 77 वीं जयंती मनाई जा रही है|)
(1984 में प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी की हत्या के बाद राजीव गाँधी को देश का पीएम बनाया गया था| उस समय राजीव की उम्र महज 40 साल थी| राजीव गाँधी साल 1989 तक देश के पीएम रहे| साल 1989 में उनकी भी हत्या कर दी गई| देश में सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी एवं दूरसंचार क्षेत्र में क्रांतिकारी बदलाव लाने का श्रेय राजीव गांधी को जाता है|)
(राजीव गांधी राष्ट्रीय सद्भावना अवार्ड: सामाजिक सौहार्द एवं सद्भावना के क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय कार्य करने वाले लोगों को सम्मानित करने के लिए साल 1992 में राजीव गांधी राष्ट्रीय सद्भावना अवार्ड की शुरुआत की गयी| इस सम्मान के विजेता को 10 लाख रुपए की नकद राशि एवं एक प्रशस्ति पत्र देकर सम्मानित किया जाता है|)
(संचार क्रांति के जनक: देश में संचार एवं सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी की जाल फैलाने के लिए उन्होंने अगस्त 1984 में सेंटर फॉर डेवलपमेंट ऑफ टेलिमेटिक्स (C-DOT) का गठन किया था| सी-डॉट की वजह से देश के कस्बों में, गांवों में संचार तंत्र का नेटवर्क बनना शुरू हुआ| इसी दौरान पीसीओ (पब्लिक कॉल ऑफिस) की शुरुआत हुई। संचार क्रांति लाने में पीसीओ की बहुत बड़ी भूमिका थी|)
(लोकतंत्र में युवाओं की भागीदारी बढ़ाने के लिए राजीव गांधी की सरकार ने साल 1989 में वोट देने की उम्र 21 साल से घटाकर 18 साल कर दी थी| इसके लिए संविधान में 61वां संशोधन किया गया था| लोकतंत्र को जमीनी स्तर तक ले जाने के लिए राजीव ने पंचायती राज व्यवस्था की आधारशिला रखी थी|)
(राजीव गाँधी ने एक बार कहा था, ‘भारत एक पुराना राष्ट्र है लेकिन एक युवा देश है| मैं भी युवा हूं और मेरे भी सपने हैं| मैं एक इंडिया का सपना देखता हूं जो कि मजबूत, स्वतंत्र एवं आत्म-निर्भर हो| एक ऐसा देश जो मानवता की सेवा में दुनिया के अग्रणी देशों में शुमार हो|’)
