Ibrahim Raisi will be the new President of Iran

Iran is confronting multiple domestic and international challenges, from water shortages and power outages to skyrocketing inflation and nuclear tensions. Can President Ebrahim Raisi tackle them?

Ibrahim Raisi will be the new President of Iran

Recently, Ibrahim Raisi has been officially sworn in as the new President of Iran on August 05, 2021. He won the 2021 Iranian presidential election in June with 62 percent of the vote. He is also been the Chief Justice of Iran since March 2019.

Raisi, 60, has replaced Hassan Rouhani to begin his four-year term. Raisi's swearing-in ceremony comes at a time when Iran is currently engaged in indirect talks with the United States to revive the 2015 nuclear deal.

Raisey will have to work to revive his country's economy, which has been battered in recent years by the previous US administration's "maximum pressure" campaign of sanctions. Tensions remain high in the region following a string of ocean sandings blamed on Tehran by the West.
