The United Nations on 27 April 2011 officially declared 30 June as International Friendship Day 2021.
International Friendship Day is celebrated every year on 30 July all over the world, but in many countries like India and Bangladesh, it is celebrated on the first Sunday of August. Friendship Day is celebrated all over the world with enthusiasm and passion.

Friendship Day was started in the world in 1958. In 1958, on the first Sunday of August, the US government got a man murdered. The deceased had a close friend, the two had a very close friendship. As soon as he came to know about the death of his friend, he also took his own life by committing suicide. Since then the government of America started celebrating this day as Friendship Day.
Unlike many relationships in the world, friendship is the only relationship that does not see gender, religion and caste in its partner. It is believed that friendship is the most important relationship to overcome cultural, political and religious differences around the world. That is why this day is welcomed with an open heart all over the world.
इंटरनेशनल फ्रेंडशिप डे प्रति वर्ष विश्वभर मे 30 जुलाई को मनाया जाता है, लेकिन इंडिया और बांग्लादेश जैसे कई देशों में इसे अगस्त के पहले रविवार को मनाया जाता है| फ्रेंडशिप डे (Friendship Day) दुनियाभर में जोश और जुनून के साथ मनाया जाता है|
संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ ने 27 अप्रैल 2011 को आधिकारिक तौर पर 30 जुन को अंतरराष्ट्रीय फ्रेंडशिप डे (International Friendship Day 2021) के रूप में मनाने की घोषणा की थी|
दुनिया में फ्रेंडशिप डे की शुरुआत 1958 में हुई थी| 1958 में अगस्त के पहले रविवार के दिन अमेरिकी सरकार ने एक व्यक्ति की हत्या करवा दी| मरने वाले का एक करीबी दोस्त था, दोनों में बेहद गहरी दोस्ती थी| जैसे ही उसे अपने दोस्त के मरने की जानकारी मिली, उसने भी आत्महत्या कर अपनी जान ले ली| तभी से अमेरिका की सरकार ने इस दिन को फ्रेंडशिप डे के रूप में मनाना शुरू किया था|
दुनिया के कई रिश्तों से अलग दोस्ती ही एक ऐसा रिश्ता है जो अपने पार्टनर में लिंग, धर्म और जाति के बंधनों में नहीं देखता है| ऐसा माना जाता है कि दुनियाभर में सांस्कृतिक, राजनीतिक और धार्मिक मतभेदों को दूर करने के लिए दोस्ती ही सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण रिश्ता है| इसलिए दुनियाभर में इस दिन का दिल खोलकर स्वागत किया जाता है|
