Kerala Health Minister George said that 13 suspected cases of this virus have been found in Thiruvananthapuram. He said the government is awaiting confirmation from the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.
Recently, the first case of the Zika virus has been reported in Kerala. Giving information, State Health Minister Veena George said that a 24-year-old pregnant woman has been found infected with the disease caused by mosquito bites.
The Health Minister said that 19 samples have been sent from Thiruvananthapuram in which 13 health workers including doctors are suspected to be infected with Zika. The symptoms of being infected with the Zika virus are similar to those of dengue, such as fever, body rashes and joint pain.
The woman is a resident of Paraslane in Thiruvananthapuram. He was admitted to the hospital on June 28 due to fever, headache and red marks on his body. Testing done at the hospital confirmed her to be infected with Zika and the sample was sent to NIV in Pune.

(स्वास्थ्य मंत्री ने कहा कि तिरुवनंतपुरम से 19 नमूने भेजे गए हैं जिनमें डॉक्टर समेत 13 स्वास्थ्य कर्मी शामिल हैं, उनके ज़ीका से संक्रमित होने का शक है| ज़ीका वायरस से संक्रमित होने के लक्षण डेंगू जैसे ही होते हैं, जैसे, बुखार आना, शरीर पर चकत्ते पड़ना और जोड़ों में दर्द आदि|)
(महिला तिरुवनंतपुरम के पारसलेन की रहने वाली है| उन्हें बुखार, सिर दर्द और शरीर पर लाल निशान पड़ने की वजह से 28 जून को अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया था| अस्पताल में की गई जांच से उनके ज़ीका से संक्रमित होने की पुष्टि हुई तथा नमूने को पुणे के एनआईवी में भेजा गया|)
