 Justice Pant becomes executive chairman of NHRC

Recently, Justice (Retd) Prafulla Chandra Pant (Prafulla Chandra Pant), a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), was appointed the acting chairman of the commission from 25 April. Justice Pant, a former Supreme Court judge, was appointed a member of the NHRC on 22 April 2019. The post of Speaker has been vacant since the completion of his term on December 2, 2020, by Justice H.L. Dattu, former Chief Justice of India.

Earlier, Prafulla Chandra Pant was appointed as the first Chief Justice of the newly established Meghalaya High Court at Shillong on 20 September 2013 and held the post till 12 August 2014.

हाल ही में राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग (NHRC) के सदस्य न्यायमूर्ति (सेवानिवृत्त) प्रफुल्ल चंद्र पंत (Prafulla Chandra Pant) को 25 अप्रैल से आयोग का कार्यकारी अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया था। सुप्रीम कोर्ट के पूर्व न्यायाधीश, जस्टिस पंत को 22 अप्रैल, 2019 को NHRC का सदस्य नियुक्त किया था। भारत के पूर्व मुख्य न्यायाधीश जस्टिस एचएल दत्तू (Justice H.L. Dattu) के 2 दिसंबर, 2020 को उनके कार्यकाल पूरा होने के बाद से अध्यक्ष का पद खाली है। 

इससे पहले, प्रफुल्ल चंद्र पंत को 20 सितंबर 2013 को शिलॉन्ग में नवस्थापित मेघालय उच्च न्यायालय का पहला मुख्य न्यायाधीश नियुक्त किया गया था और 12 अगस्त 2014 तक पद पर रहे।
