In Switzerland, a month has been proposed to ban wearing burqa or face-covering in public places.

The Swiss government is going to ban Face Covering because the citizens of Switzerland have supported the ban on face-covering in public places.

A referendum was held in Switzerland on 07 March 2021 in which 51.2 percent of the voters supported the proposal to ban the face cover. However, this proposal was passed by a very small margin.

In Switzerland, for about a month, a proposal was put in place to prohibit the wearing of burqas in public places or covering the face in any other way. To which many organizations objected. Muslim organizations were also included in the protesters. In view of this, the government decided to seek public opinion and a referendum was held on March 07.

According to the official results of the referendum, 1,426,992 people voted against Bain while 1,359,621 people voted against it. After the introduction of this ban, wearing a burqa or hijab will also be banned.

According to the University of Lucerne’s Ak report, very few people wear burqas in Switzerland, while only 30 percent of women wear masks. Switzerland has a 5.2 percent (86 lakh) population of Muslims, most of whom are from Turkey, Bosnia, and Kosovo.

 

France banned face-covering completely in 2011. Also in Denmark, Austria, Netherlands, and Bulgaria, the wearing of the burqa is prohibited in public places.
