The day was first celebrated in 2014 by the United Nations, EU leaders and international organizations.
Every year, 27 February is celebrated globally as “World NGO Day”. The purpose of celebrating World NGO Day is to motivate people to become more actively involved in NGOs (Charities, NPOs, CSOs) as well as to encourage greater synergies between NGOs and both the public and private sector.
The purpose of World NGO Day is to celebrate the universal concept, mark and collaborate with various NGOs around the world and the people behind them. World NGO Day is a day for non-governmental organizations around the world to share information and experiences with each other.
World NGO Day was officially recognized by a total of 12 member countries (Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Norway and Sweden) and announced to celebrate it globally.
