This day provides an opportunity for people to highlight the importance of the consumer rights movement and the need to make every consumer more aware of their rights and responsibilities.

National Consumer Rights Day is observed every year on 24 December in India. On this day in the year 1986, the President approved the Consumer Protection Act 1986.

The Act is intended to provide consumers with effective protection against various forms of exploitation, such as poor goods, depletion of services and unfair trade practices.

Jago Grahak Jago‘ is a consumer awareness program initiated by the Department of Consumer Affairs. As part of this initiative, the government has used the channels for consumer information and education through print, media advertisements, audio campaigns and video campaigns.
