49th Victory Day: 16 December

In India, since December 16, December 16 is celebrated as Victory Day every year. This year, the country is celebrating the 49th Victory Day in 2020. Victory Day is celebrated to commemorate the service, valor and sacrifice of Indian brave men in India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war.

The 1971 war between India and Pakistan started on 3 December, lasting 13 days and the official declaration of its end after Pakistan surrendered on 16 December.

On this day 1971, the head of the Pakistan Army, General AA Khan Niazi, with 93,000 soldiers, surrendered unconditionally to the Indian Army and the Mukti Corps. After this war, East Pakistan was separated into Bangladesh in 1772.

(इस दिन 1971 को पाकिस्‍तानी सेना के प्रमुख जनरल ए ए खान नियाजी ने 93 हजार सैनिकों के साथ भारतीय सेना और मुक्ति वाहिनी के समक्ष बिना शर्त समर्पण किया था। इस युद्ध के बाद 1772 मे पूर्वी पाकिस्‍तान अलग होकर बांग्‍लादेश बना था।)
