The foundation stone of the missile park ‘Agniprastha’ laid at INS Kalinga

The foundation stone of the missile park ‘Agniprastha’ was laid at the Naval Base INS Kalinga, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. After the construction of the missile park ‘Agniprastha’ is completed, it will be dedicated to all the officers, sailors and support staff of INS Kalinga who have served in this ENC op-support base since its establishment in 1981. 

NDB elected Brazilian Marcos Trijo as its new president

Marcos Trijo has been elected as the new chairman of the New Development Bank (NDB). He has been the former Deputy Economy Minister of Brazil and will replace KV Kamath of India as the President of Multilateral Financial Institution.
The Finance Ministry issued a statement stating that elections for this post were held on May 27 at a special meeting of the bank’s board of governors. This statement also mentioned that Anil Kishora of India will be the Vice President and Chief Risk Officer of the bank.

Facility for immediate application of PAN launched: Finance Minister

The ‘Instant Allocation of Permanent Account Number’ was formally launched by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The facility has been launched on an almost real-time basis. PAN applicants will be able to take advantage of this facility, who have a valid ‘Aadhaar number’ as well as those whose mobile number is registered with ‘Aadhaar’.
After the launch of this new facility, the allocation process has now become paperless and applicants will be issued electronic PAN (e-PAN) free of cost. By introducing this facility it will be even easier for taxpayers to comply with the rules.

Tejas MK-1 FOC fighter aircraft included in Air Force Squadron “Flying Bullets”

The Tejas Mk-1 FOC aircraft at the Indian Air Force station Sulur recently included the recently revived No. 18 Squadron, also known as the “Flying Bullet”. The Tejas MK-1 FOC is a single engine, light weight, highly agile and all-weather, effective and multi-role fighter aircraft. It has air-to-air refueling capability and is also the first squadron of the Indian Air Force to include such aircraft.

Estimates by Fitch: India’s GDP growth could be reduced by 5% in FY21

Rating agency Fitch Ratings has released its new Global Economic Report (GEO) in the wake of the global pandemic Novel Coronovirus. The Global Economic Outlook released by the rating agency has estimated GDP growth of global and countries, based on which India estimates GDP to be 5%.

JK Rowling released his book “The Ickabog” free online 

Famous author of “Harry Potter”, JK Rowling has released a free online version of his new book “The Ickabog” for children during lockdown. The Ickabog is a book based on the story of truth and abuse of power.
However the first two chapters of The Ickabog are available for free. In addition, Rowling has also urged the royalties to donate to “those most affected by the epidemic” after publishing this book.

Major Suman Gawani to be awarded UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award

UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year 2019: Indian Army Officer Major Suman Gawani will be awarded the UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award for the year 2019. This will be the first time any Indian peacekeeper will be honored with this award. Major Suman was posted to South Sudan under the United Nations Mission.
Recently he completed his mission. Gawani joined the Indian Army in 2011 where he graduated from Officers Training Academy, and then joined the Army Signal Corps. She hails from Pokhar village of Tehri Garhwal in Uttarakhand.

Indian hockey Legend Balbir Singh Dosanjh dies

Former Indian hockey player Balbir Singh Dosanjh died at the age of 95. He had won the Olympic gold medal three times, being part of the Indian hockey team that won the London Olympics (1948), the Helsinki Olympics (1952) and the Melbourne Olympics (1956). At the 1956 Olympics, he was also the captain of the Indian team that won the gold medal defeating Pakistan in the final.
